SMS behind the wheel kills 3,000 people a year in the USA

More than 3,000 people die annually in the U.S. in car accidents, etc. caused by "Distraction while driving." This study established the National Office of Traffic Safety (NHTSA).

According to statistics, every 10th car accident on the road is because using a mobile phone, most often it is used for placing text messages (SMS). And incidents are due to talk on the phone, although drivers using handsfree (handsfree) devices.

However, NHTSA reported a substantial decline in accidents caused due to use of mobile phones while driving. In 2009, because such a thing have lost their lives 5474 people, while in 2011 their number is 3092.
